Where the Wild Things Are!
My buddy John over at Domani Studios just sent this over.... Amazing...
"We think most of us are in agreement that Where the Wild Things Are--as far as sacred texts go, basically the Koran of childhood--was in safe hands with Spike Jonze, a filmmaker we fear may have at some point been beaten with a genius stick as hard as Kanye gets it with a shovel in his latest Jonze-helmed music video."
Check it out!

Jelly, what a great idea!
Hiya. Jelly is a semi-weekly work-together, and you're invited!
This is such a cool idea! Too bad no one in Atlanta is doing it....
"What is Jelly?
Jelly is casual coworking. We invite people to work from our home for the day. We provide chairs and sofas, wireless internet, and interesting people to talk to, collaborate with, and bounce ideas off of.
You bring a laptop (or whatever you need to get work done) and a friendly disposition.
Watch this video about Jelly, or read about it in Wired."

Waiting...
"It seems as though God is obsessed with waiting. Look through almost every biblical narrative and you will find people engaging in some sort of waiting, but most people are irritated when they need to wait. This is one of the greatest spiritual tensions that people regularly experience... Why does God want us to wait? Is he being mean, is he absent, did he not hear my prayer, is he just a slow God... Join us for The Long Way Round, a new two-part series with Jeanne Stevens, as we explore why God waits and what to do when he invites us to wait."

This is funny (and true)
"If a single snowflake falls, the city is paralyzed for three days and it's on all the channels as a news flash every 15 minutes for a month. All the grocery stores will be sold out of milk, bread, bottled water, toilet paper, and beer if there is a remote chance of snow, and if it does snow, people will be on the corner selling "I survived the blizzard" T-shirts."

Skateboarding as a creative outlet
Over the last month, a few people have asked me how a lot of friends of mine (and myself) all ended up in creative fields. Here is my opinion:
Skateboarding is a creative act in itself. A skateboard is nothing more than a canvas. How much style did you have when you landed that trick? How was your flow during the last session at a bowl? Everything I went through back then is somehow related to what I do now; the way my mind works, the way I think, my outlook and not wanting to be like everyone else.
I also see the bigger picture. Back then, most of the skaters I knew were into Graffiti, Hip-hop etc. Ever look at a fresh burner and see a really nice flow in the letters? Ever hear a good song and just think, "wow, those lyrics go together so well."
Could it be connected in some odd way? I seem to think so.

Bomb it
""Graffiti belongs to everyone and no one. On a section of a condemned wall, I put up a graffito... a bank director stopped the construction work, had my carving cut out as a fresco and inlayed it in the wall of his apartment."

Typography Friday gets some Love
Typography Friday was just mentioned on I Love Typography. Thank you!
Typography Friday: The idea. typographyfriday.com
I originally started Typography Friday as a weekly mental exercise to help me progress as a designer. Creating the pool on Flickr seemed like a good way to allow other people to contribute to the project. The response has been exciting, to say the least. Usually by Tuesday morning, I am concepting ideas to see what I can come up with for the end of the week. I am pretty honored that a few very established folks are participating, such as Brooke Nuñez Fetissoff of Lifeinvector.com, who has done some really amazing work.
I am excited to see where Typography Friday will go, and at the very least, it helps push me to be a more conceptual designer.
And the best part? ANYONE can take part in the fun! Just join the group on Flickr and submit! See you next Friday!
