Javascript Flash detection and embed script

FlashObject is a small Javascript file used for embedding Macromedia Flash content. The script can detect the Flash plug-in in all major web browsers (on Mac and PC) and is designed to make embedding Flash movies as easy as possible. It is also very search engine friendly, degrades gracefully, can be used in valid HTML and XHTML 1.0 documents*, and is forward compatible, so it should work for years to come.

Firefox

Firefox had a contest to see who could come up with an ad for their browser. This one pretty much nails it with the simple charactures of the icons. Thanks Mason Poe for the link.

Overheard in New York | Part 2

Chick: Why did you move my beverage to the floor?
Woman #1: You're not supposed to have drinks on the train.
Chick: It's not going to spill. Are you a cop?
Woman #1: No, I'm a taxpayer.
Chick: So am I. I have rights, too.
Woman #1: Yeah, I'm a cop.
Woman #2: Can you be a taxpayer and a cop?

Fair warning: this video contains foul language and lots of off-camera violence

Overheard in New York

Dude #1: Easy, Big Poppa, you're stepping on my shoes.
Dude #2: Sorry, it's a little crowded in here.
Dude #1: I can tell.
Dude #2: But I love it when you call me Big Poppa.
Dude #1: Seriously, get off my shoes.

I think living in NYC would be a great experience. Being around culture like this is worth the price tag. What do you think?

Night Writer | This is insane!

The night writer extends the functionality of LED throwies by allowing a writer to catch a tag in lights. It’s cheap, easy to make and writes 12-inch glowing letters 25-feet in the air on any iron or steel surface.

LED bombing!

MC Tween: it saves the world.™

MC Tween is a free library of prototypes that can be used on Flash MX and above (with both AS1 and AS2) to create property tweenings dinamically using several different easing equations - in practical words, creating easing animations via simple and small coding. Also called a tweening extension, MC Tween is just a bunch of actionscript code you can add to your Flash movies via a #include command. You will then have several "new" MovieClip, TextField and Sound methods and functions at your hand.

My Dad in Vietnam

I made this little video a few months back; some images I put together from his tour fighting in the Vietnam War.

My Dad in Vietnam. 1969-1971

Here are his thoughts on the opening scene:

"Memorial Service at 7th Engineering Batallion. I think this was around June of 1970. A squad of Marines had been ambushed in Quang Nam Province, outside of DaNang. The Huey gunships weren't far away for support, but Charlie is expert in quick surprise ambushes. First the booby traps where they are set up for a specific place, then by the time you react, they are sitting, waiting for you in their concealed locations and finish up the job with a couple RPG's and the old reliable AK47. By the time the gunships and backup troops arrived, it was all over. It's a sad day losing your friends. Particularly, in a war zone. Semper Fi, Marines........Dad"

Ryan Flynn | Photography

Ryan Flynn; old skate buddy that's going strong with Photography. I love seeing how a lot of my friends from those day's are now in some type of creative field. To me, skateboarding was a form of self expression; same as art.
