Winter Storm? Give me a break
Only in Atlanta, GA do people freak out about the small chance of a little ice. (laughter)
"The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch Wednesday that will go into effect at 3 a.m. Thursday and will expire Thursday afternoon. The city of Atlanta, as well as a line from Cedartown to Athens and points north, is included in the watch, which warned of icy conditions that are expected overnight.
"The North Georgia mountains are going to see snow," said 11Alive's Flip Spiceland. "We will see some freezing rain here."
Moisture over the Gulf of Mexico will head northeast and meet up with a cold airmass that will be in place across north the central Georgia, the National Weather Service said. The two combined will bring a mixture of rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow late Wednesday into Thursday. The National Weather Service reported that some areas could see significant snow -- up to 3 inches in higher elevations -- and ice accumulations -- up to a quarter inch on trees and power lines -- before the mix changes over to all rain late Thursday afternoon.
The following counties and cities are included in the Winter Storm Watch:
Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Chattooga, Gordon, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Floyd, Bartow, Cherokee, Forsyth, Hall, Banks, Jackson, Madison, Polk, Paulding, Cobb, North Fulton, Gwinnett, Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, DeKalb, Walton, including the cities of Calhoun, Dahlonega, Cleveland, Rome, Cartersville, Gainesville, Marietta, Atlanta, Lawrenceville, Athens, and Decatur."

1 Comments:
Atlanta should experience only minimal icing problems, primarily for a few hours early in the morning, and mostly in the northern suburbs.
